A sustainable rural society, where no poverty exists and people act responsibly toward the environment

On August 6, the Centre for Rural development in Central Vietnam (CRD) in cooperation with Women’s Union – Youth Union – Good parents club in Kim Long ward organized a thematic activity on “Prevention of Physical and Humiliating Punishment on Children” in Kim Long ward, Hue city, Thua Thien Hue province.

Overview of the thematic activity “Prevention of Physical and Humiliating Punishment on Children”

The thematic activity aimed to raise awareness among parents in the ward about ending physical and humiliating punishment on children and to create an open space for the community to exchange and share methods of educating children in family, thereby promote practice of positive discipline so that children can live in a safe and loving environment.

From the skit, participants discussed issues such as feelings, hobbies of students, ways to educate children and environment for childhood development. Also, under facilitation of the Good Parents Club, participants shared their practical experience in raising children. Many admitted that they still use physical and humiliating punishment on children such as scolding or whipping their children. Different opinions were raised but most of participants agreed to end physical and humiliating punishment and suggested forms of positive discipline for young children.

Controversial topics about raising kids are discussed

Problems in different families are raised and possible solutions are discussed.

Participating in the thematic activity, Mrs. Tran Thi Ngoc Ai – a representative from Women Union of Kim Long ward shared” Thanks to thematic activity, parents in the ward have raised their awareness about physical and humiliating punishment on children and changing their ways to educate children.

The activity was a part of communication activities on Prevention of Physical and Humiliating Punishment on Children within the project “Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations on child rights governance” coordinated by CRD and funded by Save the Children in Vietnam.
