From the 11th to 13th of September 2021, the project “Associated agriculture for long-term income stabilization of ethnic minorities and equal integration in community development in Vietnam” (BMZ project) organized training courses on “black pig farming techniques and disease prevention” for project beneficiaries.

There were 7 training courses organized with the participation of 145 people including 94 females and 51 males. Participants are members of 7 livestock farming groups in Cha Val, Ta Poo and Ta Bhing communes, Nam Giang district, Quang Nam province.

The training courses aimed to advance knowledge and skills for black pig farming households who are beneficiaries of the project. Households participated in these training course shall be capable of providing guidance for other households in the community to develop livestock farming in the locality.

Overview of the training course in Cha Val

Trainers in charge of these training courses are communal veterinary staff who had received training on professional knowledge and teaching skills before they conducted re-training in their community. Knowledge about livestock farming and disease prevention were transferred to people by their indigenous language. There was presence of project staff to help trainers solve confusing issues during the training courses.

Thanks to the training courses, participants have acquired useful knowledge such as establishment of pig housing, selecting breeds, mixing pig feed, taking care of pigs and preventing pig diseases. Apart from learning theories, participants and trainers discussed limitations in pig production in the locality and proposed solutions in the upcoming time.

After each training course, the project conducted evaluation of the training quality and results. The result of post training evaluation showed that most of trainees appreciated the training content and they can acquire knowledge from the course.
