Previously, the Center had conducted a survey and consultation with ethnic minority communities in A Roang and Hong Thuong communes on the selection of appropriate interventions to enhance the climate adaptability and productivity of and reduce emissions from existing agricultural production models.
Following up with the community consultations, the Center continued to organize consultation meetings with local authorities at district and commune levels and relevant departments to identify and select CSA models for piloting. Attending the meeting were leader representatives of the district and communes’ People’s Committees; Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD); Agricultural Technical Service Center; Farmers’ Association and Women’s Union of A Luoi District.
At the consultation meeting, CRD’s consultant group reported the results of the community survey and discussed issues during the implementation of the CSA models, such as composting techniques, treating livestock waste, capacity building for the people, and measures to ensure the sustainability of the project.
At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed to select 3 types of climate smart agricultural production models to deploy, including: 1) semi-intensive cattle farming model; 2) pig farming model; and 3) wet rice farming model.
