In June 2021, household groups participating in community forest management in Thuong Lo commune, Nam Dong district, Thua Thien Hue province developed sustainable forest management plans for community. This activity was consulted by the Centre for Rural Development in Central Vietnam (CRD), University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University.
With CRD’s consultation, household groups participating in community forest management in Thuong Lo commune developed 12 plans for sustainable forest management in the period 2021-2025.
Based on results of checking forest status, Community Forest Management Boards and members participating in forest management worked together to develop plans. After discussion, members selected activities which are suitable for site conditions of each forest area and capacity of communities in forest management, protection, and development.
Sustainable forest management plans are disseminated to Group 5 of Doi hamlet, Thuong Lo commune, Nam Dong district.
Mr. Vuong Van Ga, Head of Group 6 Community Forest Management Board said “The sustainable forest management plans have been built by the community to effectively implement forest management, protection and development in 5 years. This is the basis for forest management household groups to make annual plan for implementation of community forest management activities. Also, it serves as a basis for local authorities and functional agencies to support and monitor community forest management activities.”
After 12 sustainable forest management plans were approved, Community Forest Management Boards widely disseminated these plans to members participating in forest management. The dissemination has helped the members to understand activities which will be implemented in the period 2021-2025.
This activity is within the framework of the project “Strengthening CSOs and CBOs to Accelerate Conservation Efforts in the Central Annamites” funded by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The project is coordinated by the World Wide Fund For Nature Vietnam and co-implemented by the Center for Rural Development in Central Vietnam and Thua Thien Hue Forest Owners Sustainable Development Association.
